When We Use the Present Tense

The present tense in Spanish is used to express actions that are happening now, habitual actions, and general truths. 

To conjugate Spanish verbs like “ofrecer,” simply drop the infinitive ending (-er) and add the appropriate endings according to the subject pronoun.

When We Use the Preterite Tense

In Spanish, we use the preterite tense to describe completed actions in the past, especially those with a specific endpoint.

When We Use the Imperfect Tense

The imperfect tense is used to describe ongoing or repeated actions in the past, as well as to set the scene or describe background information. 

Examples are below; as you will see, the translation is “was offering” and “used to offer”. This makes it different from the preterite tense.

When We Use the Future Tense

We use the future tense in Spanish when we want to indicate actions that will happen in the future.

When We Use the Conditional Tense

Unlike the future tense, the conditional tense expresses actions that would happen under certain conditions. 

So, the translation is “would offer”.

All Spanish verbs, including “ofrecer” are conjugated by adding specific endings to the infinitive form.

This makes the conditional tense very easy to learn in Spanish.

When We Use the Perfect Tense

The perfect tense is used to describe actions that have happened in the recent past or actions that have relevance to the present.

This means “have offered” in English. 

We form the prefect tense by conjugating using the auxiliary verb “haber”, which means “to have”. We then use the past participle of “ofrecer”, which is “ofrecido”.

  • Yo he ofrecido mi ayuda en varias ocasiones. (I have offered my help on several occasions.)

When We Use the Pluperfect Tense

Just like the perfect tense, the pluperfect tense requires us to conjugate “haber” and use the past participle. 

We use the pluperfect tense to describe actions that had occurred before another past action. 

Every verb in Spanish, including “ofrecer”, needs to be conjugated using the auxiliary verb “haber” with the addition of the past participle.

When We Use the Future Perfect Tense

The future perfect tense describes actions that will have been completed at a certain point in the future. 

This tense is not too difficult to learn. Like the perfect and pluperfect tenses, we need to conjugate “haber” to use the future perfect tense.

When We Use The Negative Imperative

As the name of this form suggests, the negative imperative is used to give commands or make requests in a negative manner, often indicating what someone should not do.
